I can honestly say I enjoy leading ... to a point ... and then I like to sit on a boulder and watch the parade of people, events, and opportunities pass before my eyes ... to learn, to breathe, to rest, to observe, to gain insights from those who walk, stumble, run, or sit with me.
Leading is a powerful gift to share ... be wise in your leadership ... be honorable in your leadership ... be the example you wish to see in others.
I remember sitting in the grassy field in Ketchum listening to the Dali Lama share his story of the individual who came to him to ask how to stop their child from eating so much sugar (or something like that) ... the Dali Lama had to tell the individual to come back in 30 days. Why you ask? Because the Dali Lama ate sugar ( or something like that) and wasn't able to lead the individual to success if he himself was still eating sugar (or something like that).
The conversation has carried me through the years of questions from clients ... just the other day a client asked what I thought about cardio on the treadmill or eliptical ... long pause on my part ... I shared that my idea of car-dio is listening to the radio in the car! Or if someone is chasing me ... I will run. Again, I can't tell people to do something that I don't do ... that's not being an honorable leader ... just a lecturing idealist.
Instead, I tell them I love to dance, do yoga, metabolic train on the TRX, or go for a walk. I don't tell people what to do if I am not willing to follow my own lecturing, idealistic ways!
Today may be a day of leading through strength ... or perhaps time for you to sit on a boulder and observe ... maybe today you are leading through the example of receiving and accepting ...
Each day you demonstrate the power of your human spirit with your leadership. Allow yourself the opportunity to walk, run, sit, rest, and rise again ... be well on your journey of leadership today. Namaste.
